Forgia di Bollate is equipped with an ingot cutting department with 12 saws, one of which is high-speed, dedicated to cutting large-sized ingots and designed to guarantee optimum precision and cutting speed.
The forging department is the heart of the company, where the steel processing takes place through hot plastic deformation. In this department, there are: two hydraulic presses, one of 6,000 tons and the other of 20,000 tons and two manipulators. This department is capable of producing rings up to 7.000mm dia and up to 2.700mm height.
Heat treatment plays a crucial role in ensuring that forged and rolled products achieve the desired mechanical and metallurgical properties. There are two tanks in the department to carry out specific treatments such as quenching and solution annealing.
Forgia di Bollate is equipped with a machining department comprising six lathes with various working capacities. These machines are essential for performing precise machining on forged parts of various sizes and shapes, even complex ones.
Testing of forgings is carried out in 2 stages:
1. After heat treatment: dimensional and visual verification, hardness control and volumetric check with UT tests.
2. After machining: dimensional verification, hardness control, volumetric checks with UT, MT and PT tests.
FDB’s in-house laboratory performs mechanical tests, such as tensile and high-temperature tensile tests up to 1000 °C, Charpy, and hardness tests.
The laboratory can also perform metallographic tests, micrographs, and macrographs.
For more specific tests, FDB relies on certified external laboratories.
